“We’ve partnered with xDesign for the last 5+ years, and they have been key to delivering some vital pieces of software for our business. They have always been approachable and proactive in helping us deliver.”
Established in 1998, PayPal set its sights on empowering people and businesses to achieve better payment experiences and democratising financial services. As one of the world’s leading global online payment platforms, it enables its users to transfer money and make fast, secure electronic payments in 25 currencies. All whilst collecting petabytes of data from its 429 million users and their purchases through the platform. PayPal was looking for an experienced partner that could create innovative ways to deliver detailed, real-time insights to their executive team. The goal was to ensure company employees always had a detailed overview of data, no matter where they were in the world.
What we created
By interviewing PayPal’s stakeholders, reviewing its analytics, and developing working prototypes, we gained an in-depth understanding of the Key Performance Indicators that drove important decisions, and how these changed depending on the user. We used our findings to build bespoke iPad and iPhone apps that provided tailored insights that were directly informed by a user’s profile and platform behaviours.
We worked closely with PayPal’s internal development team to create a solution with built-in APIs. This solution would deliver hundreds of thousands of different data points from its internal Data Lake, transforming petabytes of information into an easily digestible volume, suited to both iPad and iPhone displays. The aim was to make the organisation's data accessible, usable and insightful for individual users - even whilst on the move.
With great datasets comes great responsibility. Security is paramount in any situation that involves access to data and sensitive transactions. In line with the best industry standards, we implemented leading security techniques and technology to protect user data through encryption, Single Sign-On, and MDM integration with AirWatch.
As part of the project delivery, we supported PayPal in hiring an internal mobile team. We also worked closely with its in-house engineering team to guide and lead them on Agile methodology - revolutionising the way it works and approaches engineering. This included training throughout the transition period, allowing them to fully take over the maintenance and development of the app we created.
- Provided a solution that would help PayPal make better use of a data leak of valuable insights. - Granted the PayPal executive team unprecedented access to this data across various devices whilst on the go. - Provided the PayPal team with the approaches and methodologies needed to maintain the new app and supercharge its mobile engineering capabilities.
